Pratt, Kan. — Lucille Lewis, 87, formerly of Pratt, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on June 16, 2014. Lucille had lived the last two years in Manhattan at Via Christi Village, near her oldest son's family. She passed away at Via Christi Village, where she was loved for her spunk, helpfulness and dry witty humor.

Vivian Lucille Cox was born June 7, 1927, at Byers, the daughter of Alva and Lydia (Swafford) Cox Shriver. She grew up on her parents' farm on the north edge of Byers and graduated from high school in 1944.

On July 27, 1945, she married Calvin C. Lewis. They started their married life on the family farm west of Pratt. Lucille was a farm wife and she raised six children. She enjoyed reading, sewing and knitting. She was a very giving person.

In 1970 Lucille started Successful Living Books, servicing area stores. In 1974 she opened and managed P.K. Booknook and Natural Foods stores until 2002. She was involved in church circles, Sunday School, Gideon's International, Richland Rustlers 4-H Club, Pratt EDU and Bible study groups. She was a member of Pratt Bible Church.

Calvin and Lucille moved into Pratt from the farm in September 2009. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in July of 2010.

Lucille is survived by her four sons, Garland and wife Linda of Manhattan, Loren, Claremore, Okla., Dayle Keith and wife Ruthann, Richmond, Ind., and Charles and wife Virginia, Morgantown, W. Va.; daughter, Lydia and husband John Broschat, Williston, N.D.; and son-in-law, Paul Mena, Pratt; one sister, Faye McMannis, Pratt; and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved children and was blessed by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin on May 27, 2012; her daughter, Ramona Mena on May 26, 2010; her parents; three sisters and two brothers.

A visitation with the family will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary. A family burial will be held at the Cullison Sunset Cemetery Friday morning. A celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pratt Bible Church, with visitation starting at 1:15. Pastor Kevin Murray will officiate.
