Owen Stephens , 78 year old Guymon resident, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Hospice Care of The Southwest in Amarillo Texas.

The son of Clouse Thomas and Flora Dora (Griffin) Stephens, Owen was born September 26, 1935 in Tempe, Arizona. Owen attended Hardesty Public Schools graduating with the class of 1956.

Owen married Jean Elaine Brown on October 25, 1956 in Oklahoma City.

Owen was a very hard worker and worked several jobs in his life. He was an auto mechanic, worked as a farmer and rancher, held a position with Swift industries for over 13 years and owned and operated Owens Steam Way with Jean for over 26 years. Owen was a member of the Odd Fellows and Rebecca Lodge and had numerous hobbies, including wood working, riding motorcycles, traveling and camping in the mountains. Owen was a good natured ornery person whose humor will be greatly missed. Owen never met a stranger and loved to visit. Owen was mechanically inclined and could fix anything. He found the most enjoyment spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Pa Bear". "Pa Bear" and "Ma Bear" shared a special kind of love for over 57 years.

Survivors include his loving wife Jean Stephens of Guymon, OK; two daughters, Catheryn "Cathy" McEachern and husband Joe of McPherson, Kansas and Linda Shoemaker of Guymon, OK; one daughter in law Janis Murphy one sister Lamanda Hammonds and husband Frank of Belton, Texas; two brothers Tom and his wife Phyllis of Guymon, OK and Melvin and his wife LouElla Stephens of Plainview, Texas; eight grandchildren Cory Pearson, Chris Pearson, Ashley McEachern, Denise Spallo, Curtis Belvin, Nichole Myers, Jamie Liese and Dana Farnsworth; sixteen great-granchildren, Katie Spallo, Sophia Spallo, Vinnie Spallo, Zachary Pearson, Christian Pearson, Gracie Pearson, Gabrial Pearson, Andrew Myers, Lance Myers, Rylan Myers, Hunter Liese, Jordan Liese, Jadyn Liese, Guage Belvin, Mika Belvin and Clara Belvin. Owen is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Owen was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Emily Katherine (Shorb) Brown-Lile in 2013, son, Don Allen Stephens in 1980, son- in- law Donnie Shoemaker in 2011 and grandson Joey Dean McEachern in 1983.

Funeral Services will be Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at The Nazarene Church, 2214 N. Sunset Lane with Reverend Wayne Dawson Officiating. Interment will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Medical Center League House, 7000 Amarillo Blvd West Amarillo, Texas 79106
