Rev. Roger L. Barnes, 64, of Ellenboro, WV, went peacefully to the Lord on Friday, June 6, 2014, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, surrounded by his loving family.

Roger was born March 20, 1950 in Harrisville, WV, a son of the late Clyde and Edith (Elder) Barnes. Roger worked as a chemical operator for 28 years at the former American Cyanamid Plant of Willow Island and later retired after working 16 years for Hoffman & Roach. He has served as the minister of Middle Ridge Baptist Church of Deerwalk, WV for the past 12 years and formerly taught Sunday School for 20 years at the Highland Community Church. Roger was one of the charter members of the Ellenboro Fire Department and also coached Little League and Tball for many years for the youth of Ritchie County. Roger was a proud graduate of Pennsboro High School with the class of 1968 where he lettered in football and baseball. He served as president of the former Ellenboro Glass Festival and greatly enjoyed playing guitar with his grandson and spending time with his friends and family. He loved gospel music and simply, Roger never met a stranger.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pamela (Freeland) Barnes; children, Chad Barnes (Katie) of Marietta, OH; Jeremy Barnes of Ellenboro; Christopher Barnes (Tonya) of Shinnston, WV; Hannah Lamp and companion Mark DeMoss of Ellenboro; grandchildren, Zachary Barnes, Laura Barnes, Jocelyn Lamp, Brayden Lamp, Lila Barnes, Branden DeMoss, Lacey DeMoss; sister in law, Patricia Guice (Mike) of Parkersburg and Kathy Freeland of Winchester, VA, along with several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Barnes (Margie) and Harold Barnes; sister, Sue Beck (Kermit); brother in law, William "Bill" Freeland, and father & mother in laws, Everett & Olive Freeland.

Funeral services will be 1pm, Monday, at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV with Rev. Terry McDonald and Rev. Bob Barker officiating. Burial will follow in the Ellenboro Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8pm today at the funeral home. The family has asked for fellow ministers to join them at 3pm today for a private reflection of Roger.
