ELECTRIC BOLT KILLS
MINE WORKER, 34

Bingham - Contact with a 5,000-volt electric line Monday took the life of a 34-year-old West Jordan man in an industrial accident at Kennecott Copper Corp. Utah Copper Division Mine in Bingham Canyon.
Company officials identified the victim as Grant H. Perkes, 1679 W. 9000 South, a father of seven children.
The accident occurred about 12:50 p.m. at the 6,190 foot level on the mine's east side where Mr. Perkes, an electrical lineman, was attempting to adjust a T-bar on an electric tower.
The victim had been a Kennecott employe since 1947.
An overseas veteran of World War II, he married Alice Johnson, April 3, 1945, in Sandy.
Survivors include his widow and the following children, Grant LeRoy, 12; George Alvin, 10; Alice Ann, 7; Kenneth Lee, 6; Cora Jean, 4; Fred Albert, 2; and Tammy Amelia, seven months.
Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Perkes, Murray; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Higgs, Midvale.
