Charles O. Peyton, 93, of Beaufort, South Carolina, died Saturday, June 21, 2014 at his residence.

Charles was born on November 26, 1920 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is the son of the late Grafton Peyton and Florrie Martin Peyton.

He was a member of the Parish Church of St. Helena, an Exxon executive, a community leader and philanthropist. "Charlie" was a gentleman with an unusual combination of talent and character.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Margret "Peggy" Sanford Peyton of Beaufort, South Carolina. He also leaves two sons, Reverend Charles Randall Peyton of Tampa, Florida, and Dr. Robert Peyton of Raleigh, North Carolina; and one sister, Annabelle Peyton Robinson of Shreveport, Louisiana. Charles has four grandchildren, Dr. Jamie Peyton of Winters, California, Dr. Charles Peyton of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Charles Daniel Peyton of Summerville, South Carolina, Captain Brin Peyton of Savannah, Georgia, and two great grandchildren, Savannah and Tessa Peyton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Patricia Jean Peyton, and his brother, William Carl Peyton of Lafayette, Louisiana.

Funeral services were held at the Parish Church of St. Helena at 505 Church Street, Beaufort, South Carolina, on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., immediately followed by an interment in St. Helena Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The Preservation Trust for Historic St. Helena's Church, Inc., PO Box 1043, Beaufort, SC 29901.
