Sandy was raised by her mother Pauline and her aunt and uncle, Ann Pupchik and John Pupchik, of Seymour with great adoration from her paternal grandmother, Mildred Steele Newman. She was a graduate of Stone Business Academy and was employed as a office manager and legal secretary for the Farren and King law firm of New Haven before her marriage, and she later was a court transcriptionist. She was an avid gardener, craftsperson and quilter. She was a founder, past president and member of the Wallingford Heritage Quilters and a member of Trumbull Quilt Group and Connecticut Piecemakers. She was a past president and member of the Wallingford Garden Club and member of the Southington Garden Club and Connecticut Horticultural Society. She was a chairman of the Meriden Friends of the Library Garden Tour and displayed her garden in the tour. Sandy was a member and treasurer and financial secretary of the Karl the XII Lodge of the Vasa Order of America in Bristol. She loved to travel especially to the Pennsylvania Amish area. She loved and enjoyed the arts and music and loved visiting museums and attending concerts. She was a member of the Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville and a member of the Lady of Fatima Women's Group. She was a catechism teacher and Girl Scout leader. She was past president of the Israel Putnam Parent Teachers Association. She was a community activist in Meriden and a founder and member of the Meriden South Central Neighborhood Association. She was totally dedicated to her family. Great appreciation and thanks is extended to Smilow Cancer Center staff and the Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care for the wonderful care she received. Besides her husband, William, she is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws, Julie and Isaiah Gillet; Susan and Alberto Lopez; her grandchildren; and her niece and three nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Entombment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum in Meriden.
