Known as Baldwin II, Baudouin II Comte de Hainaut was born circa 1056. He was the son of Baldwinus VI Graaf van Vlaanderen (Count of Flanders VI - Baldwin I b1030) and Richilde, Comtesse de Hainaut b1034. He succeeded to the title of Comte de Hainaut in 1071. To the right is a pictorial of the Castle Gravensteen built on the site where a Wooden Fort built by the Counts de Flanders once stood.(Apparently I am Not Allowed to have the Castle Picture portrayed) He married Ida van Louvain in 1084, daughter of Henri II, Comte de Louvain and Adèle de Bettau. His wife was also known as Ida de Louvain, daughter of Henry II of Brabant - Count of Louvain and Countess Adelaide de Orlamunda, also known as Adèle de Bettau.
He Died in the Middle East while 0n Crusade in 1098. He was capture & Killed by the Seljuk Turks in Anatolia, Turkey. His GG/grandson Baldwin I, Count De Flanders also met the same fate while on Crusade in 1205. see #132048238
It has been suggested that he & his wife had numerous children prior to his death in 1098 while 0n Crusade in the Holy Land.
