In October, 1826, Thomas Davis and his family arrived by wagon and ox team in Pike Co., Illnois. The following is a list of those known for certain to have been with them from accounts written by those on the wagon train:
Charles Adams, James Daniels, David Daniels, David Hoover, Joel Meachum, Zachariah Garrison, Joseph Garrison, Sally Sarah (Allen) Garrison, John Garrison, Joseph M. Gale, Ezekiel Clemmons, Lewis "Boone" Allen, John Morton, Peter Dillon, John Loop, Nicholas Jones, John Jones, Wm. McBride, Smith Aimes, Josiah Simms, William Kenney, Joshua Davis, Elijah Garrison.

[He was a veteran of the Black Hawk War (1832 - Illinois & Michigan Territory). He served as a Private in Captain Benjamin Barney's Pike County, Illinois, Company of the 3rd Regiment, commanded by Col. Abram B. DeWitt, of the Brigade of Mounted Volunteers commanded by Brig-General Whitesides. Mustered out of the service, at the mouth of Fox River, on May 27, 1832. Distant 250 miles from the place of enrollment.]
(K. Robinson, 2014)

My research in Illinois was at first directed to finding my 3rd great-grandfathers family, Thomas Davis. Thomas had left Illinois with his family and with many other Illinois relations traveled with his family across the Oregon Trail in 1853 as part of the so called "Rough and Ready" wagon train captained by William Gale #66329091 (Joseph's brother). That wagon train became historically significant when it nearly disappeared in the Cascade Mountains in late October while trying, with 300 hundred other wagons, to be the first to try a new route to the Willamette Valley. To the wagon trains surprise the road was not completed and they nearly all perished in the attempt. It became known as the "Lost Wagon Train of 1853."

Lewis Allen #56066515, grandson of the Boone's and known in the early community as "Boone" Allen the "marrying parson" of the 1830s, as revealed by old records in the office of County Clerk, O. D. Gicker. His first recorded wedding in this county is that of Joseph Gale to Elizabeth Garrison, July 21, 1831, the bride being Boone Allen's niece and a great granddaughter of the Jonathan Boone's.

On January 28, 1834, Lewis Allen officiated at the wedding of Zachariah Garrison to Miss Louisiana Davis (daughter of Thomas Davis), the groom being the son of Lewis Allen's sister, Sarah (Allen) Garrison, wife of Rev. Elijah Garrison, a pioneer Christian preacher of 1826, she being the granddaughter of Jonathan Boone and a great-grandaughter of Squire and Sarah (Morgan) Boone the parents of Daniel Boone.
