Rochester – Harry S. Matthews, 81, of Hawk Lane went to be with the Lord Friday June 27, 2014 at Riverside Rest Home in Dover surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Eastport, ME December 24, 1932 the son of George and Mattie (McPhail) Matthews. He was a graduate of Shead Memorial High School, Eastport.

He was a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War having served from 1951 To 1972 and retired after 20 years of service.

After the Air Force he was a 15-year employee for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.

Harry loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of the American legion.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, East Rochester and was passionate in serving the Lord.

Harry is survived by his wife of 60-years Joan (Guptill) Matthews, a daughter Cynthia Joan Mullen and her husband Robert of Rochester, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters Amelia Franklin of Eastport, Maine and Virginia Hill of Calais, Maine and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a daughter Christine Matthews who died in 1983 and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 5 July 1100 o'clock at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, with Rev. Reggie L. Morgan, pastor of the grace Baptist Church, East Rochester, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover.
