Nancy Jane Patten, daughter of Allan and Phobie Lewis Hutt, was born Oct. 14, 1855, in Henry County, near Peoria, Illinois.

The family moved to Breckinridge, Missouri in the year 1869.

She married Abraham Patten near Breckinridge, Missouri on December 25, 1871.

Mr. and Mrs. Patten moved to Dallas County near Woodward, Iowa in 1973, in 1908 they moved to a farm near Marathon in 1912 to the Rembrandt community and in 1917 they moved to the own of Rembrandt. Mrs. Patten has lived in Sioux Rapids since 1922.

To this union were born six children: Emily, Jake, William, Elizabeth, John and Abbie.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1922 and two sons, Jake and William.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ed Huffman of Sioux Rapids, Mrs. C.A. Hutt of Woodward, Iowa and Mrs. Oscar Erickson of Sioux Rapids; one son, John of Sioux Rapids; one brother, George Hutt of Des Moines; 43 nephews and nieces; 31 grandchildren; 78 great grandchildren; 21 great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Patten fell and broke her hip in 1940 and has been confined to her wheelchair since 1945. She lost her sight in 1945 and since January 7, 1953, has been confined to her bed.

She died Wednesday, November 4, at 6:30 a.m. at the age of 98 years and 21 days.
