Ellen Minerva Porter: Born October 22, 1921 in Cleveland County, Oklahoma
Died: April 18, 1983 in McKinleyville, Calif.

Born To: Charlie Bryant Tanner and Jewel Lottie (Nowels) Tanner who lived in the Cleveland County area, and she was the second daughter to her parents, Charlie and Jewel Tanner. Her father died when he was only 27 years old, and left Jewel with 2 little girls and a very hard life. She survived for only a short time and married again to another Charlie, only this time the last name was Davis. He was a full blood Cherokee Indian, and had been married before and divorced. He had several children already, but did not associate with them often. He owned a saloon at the time, and was a pretty rough character. After awhile, they moved to the Perkins rural area and farmed. Times were very hard, and when she was being treated harshly her and her older sister Maxine, left the home and went down the road all alone to make it on their own. She was only a small girl at the time, and they ran across a Pentecostal Lady preacher who took them in and cared for them, eventually finding them a home with their uncle Grover Alberty, who lived in the Cleveland area. While living their they met the Porter boys, being the son's of Daniel Boone Porter, the second family after the death of his first wife, and then marrying for the second time and having another family of several children. Her older sister Maxine married the oldest of these young men, John Porter and Ellen continued to date his younger brother's, Bill and Ed, till she finally met one of their nephews who had come from the Parkland, Okla. area to visit. This courtship continued for a while, and she finally married this nephew, Albert Porter, the son of Ben and Florence Porter, Ben being the half brother of John, her brother-in-law.
They married in Cushing, Okla. and immediately settled in the Parkland area and lived with her new husband's Father and Mother, Ben & Florence Porter and share cropped with them. After their first child was born, Bobby G. Porter, they moved a couple of miles south, just north of the Parkland Cemetery on the east side of the road, where Billie Eugene was born, their second son. They later on, moved to the Perkins, Okla. area, east and north of town, just a mile west and a quarter south of the Eden Chapel church and cemetery, where Bennie Ray, their third son was born in Oct. of 1943. Very soon afterwards, they moved a half mile south of the Eden Chapel church, on what was then called the Ostrainer Place, and farmed it for the owners until the summer of 1945 when they sold out the farm and moved to Lindsey, Calif. where Bobby went to his first year of school. Albert had taken a job on an Olive Orchard where they lived in a little worker house, very small and with very little accommodations, such as modern conveniences we enjoy today. Billie started his first year of school at the Sunny Side School, being only 5 years old, as she told them he was 6, so that Bobby did not have to go by himself. They lived in this area for 24 months, then moved back to Perkins where they still had the money they had sold the farm for, in the Payne County Bank, and bought a home with it so as not to have any house payments. They lived in this little home for 4 years, and then began going to the McKinleyville, Calif. area to work in the Lumber Mills during the summertime. Finally after several moves back and forth, they sold out and moved to McKinleyville for the last time in 1954 where they remained until her death. There was a little group of people, referred to as (brethren) associated with the Church of The Firstborn, the same church her husband's father and grandfather were associated with in Okla., the one that she too had been baptized into on Christmas day of 1950. She remained there in McKinleyville, Calif. until her death, March 10th 1982.

Ellen and her husband Albert, were blessed with three sons, Bobby Gene, Billie Eugene, and Bennie Ray Porter.

In this year of 2014, they are all still living. Bobby lives with his wife Jerlene in Fortuna, Calif.. Bill, lives with his wife Carlene, at Cortez, Colo. and Ben and his wife Bessie, live in Sapulpa, Okla.
