John R. McAvoy, 77, of Antioch, died Nov. 30 at St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan.

Mr. McAvoy was born Feb. 17, 1926 in Chicago, the son of the late Leon and Katherine (Rockwood) McAvoy. He had lived in Rolling Meadows for many years before moving to Antioch in 1971. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended St. Peter Church in Antioch and was a member of AARP. He loved to golf, bike riding and sports.

Before his retirement, Mr. McAvoy was the office manager for the Illinois Range of Bristol, Wis., where he worked from 1971 until 1998.

On July 10, 1948, he married Dorothy Bronars in Chicago. She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 1998.

He is survived by his sons, John (Joanie) of Lisle, Michael (Joan) of Crystal Lake and Tom (Angela) of Paddock Lake, Wis.; and nine grandchildren, Shawn, Erin, Michael, Christopher, Molly, Daniel, Kelly, Megan and Shannon. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joan.

A Mass of Christian burial was offered Dec. 4 at St. Peter Church, Antioch.

Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Antioch.
