Funeral services for John Christopher Peifer, 78, of 416 Cumberland street, a retired clerk in the master mechanic's office of the Pennsylvania Railroad, who died yesterday morning of a heart attack while attending mass at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock, from the St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Peter S. Hugel, pastor, celebrating a requiem high mass. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Peifer was active in railroad and fraternal affairs and was a member of the Holy Name Society of the St. Lawrence Church, ther Retired Men's Association of the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Union Labor Hall, the William Penn Association, the Dauphin County Volunteer Firemen's Association, the Firemen's Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania, the Veteran Firemen's Assocation, the Fraternal Order of Beavers. He was an honorary member of the Good Will Fire Company and the Capt. H. L. Calder Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Seward and Mrs. Thomas C. Egenrieder, both of Harrisburg; one brother, Charles, Harrisburg; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Hallman, Harrisburg, and Mrs. Minnie Neumeyer, Schenectady, N. Y.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Heidel funeral home, 1429 North Second street, tomorrow night from 7 to 9 o'clock.
