Fred Joseph Spillman, 91, of Carrollton, Ky., died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

He was born July 7, 1913, in Carroll County, Ky., the son of Prentice Obert and Sallie Jane Ballard Spillman. He was former co-owner of East End Lumber and Supply Co. in Carrollton and was also a former building contractor in the area. He was a member of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the D-Day invasion. He was a member of the American Legion Post 41 in Carrollton and was a former member of the Carroll County Kiwanis Club.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Meadows Spillman; one daughter, Ellen Jane Spillman Wood of Sadieville, Ky.; and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Susan Diane Spillman; three sisters, Esther Lindsay, Noma Chapman and Evelyn Dixie Wade; and three brothers, Snowden, Casper and Barney Spillman.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, with burial in the Carrollton IOOF Cemetery.
