Elaine (Miller) Howell, 88, of Elizabeth Township, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, in Arden Courts, Jefferson Hills. Born June 25, 1926, in McKeesport, she was a daughter of C. Elmer and Kathryn (Smith) Miller. Prior to retirement, she had been an executive secretary for Allegheny County and had belonged to Bethesda United Presbyterian Church, Elizabeth. She was a member of the International Order of the Eastern Star (OES) Elizabeth Chaper No. 316, secretary of the memorial committee for many years at her church and an original member of the card club The DEBS. She was also a member of the Elizabeth Township Senior Citizens. She enjoyed spending time at her winter home in Fort Myers, Fla., and dancing with her late husband. She also enjoyed communicating with many friends through her card ministry and late in life becoming the matriarch of her family by keeping up with her nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank the staff of Arden Courts of Jefferson Hills for the love and care they showed to their mother. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Jane (Tom) Berich, of Elizabeth Township, and Donna (Mike) Carney, of Elizabeth Township; son, Lawrence R. (Holly Snyder) Howell Jr., of West Newton; four grandchildren, Thomas (Lara) Berich, of Ashland, Ore., Ryan (Anita) Berich, of Moon Township, Allison (Brad) Allegre, of Washington, Pa., and Bethany Carney, of Austin, Texas; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, the late Lawrence R. "Lates" Howell; and four siblings, Bradford Miller, Allen "Rip" Miller, Jane Henderson and Betty Trafalls Cruikshank. Visitation will be held noon to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2014, in the PAUL E. BEKAVAC FUNERAL HOME, 221 North Second Ave., Elizabeth, PA 15037, 412-384-4344. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in Bethesda United Presbyterian Church, 314 South Third Ave., Elizabeth, PA 15037, with the Rev. Wlater Pietchshmann officiating.
