Elda Carolyn Stewart

1937 ~ 2013

Elda Carolyn Stewart passed away May 10, 2013 at the home of her sister in Midvale, Utah of past Polio syndrome. She was born on October 12, 1937 in Price, Utah. She was the daughter of Myron Alma Stewart and Printha Verda Hansen. She lived in Spring Canyon for five years and then moved to 3248 Orchard Street in Salt Lake City.

She attended the University of Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1959. After graduating, she moved to southern California with her sister and a friend for two years. She returned to Utah and taught school for one year at Kearns Jr. High School. Then she worked at the University of Utah Law School for seven years. She was then recruited to help begin the Brigham Young University Law School where she worked for 30 years. Many of the deans said that she ran the law school. She loved her work there and had the title of administrative assistant to the dean.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as the Stake Relief Society President and Primary President and Mutual President. She loved going to camp with the girls and the girls loved her. She served in many other callings and always gave 110% effort going the extra mile.

She did volunteer work at the missionary training center and volunteered at the Timpanogos Regional Hospital for five years after she retired from the law school. She was also an active member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers. She was proud to be a fourth generation member.

She loved to sew and did many wall hangings, quilting, reading, traveling, and working in her yard.

She is survived by Shanna Lee Smith (Don) Midvale Ut., Marilyn White (Walt) Midvale, Ut, and Shirl Stewart (Barbara) Colorado Springs, Co. She was loved by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Max (Betty), sister Udale (Bus), & brother Calvin (Elinor), one niece, two nephews, one great nephew and her beloved dog Christopher which she wrote her book about.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 18 at 11:00am at Orem Utah Park Stake Center (195 West 300 South, Orem Utah). A viewing will be held at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary (495 South State Street, Orem Utah) on Friday May 17th from 6:00 - 8:00pm. Additional viewing will be available at the Stake Center from 9:45 - 10:45am.

We wish to thank many close friends and ward members for the kindness and help they gave Carolyn during the last few years so that she could stay in her home as long as possible.
