Carmen was born August 21, 1932, in Poteau, Oklahoma, to Charles and Marg Ellen Kingsland Porter. She received her BS in Nursing from Oklahoma University and was a surgical RN for 30 years at Malone Hogan Hospital in Big Spring, and was a surgical RN and DON for eight years at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. She is the widow of Waymon Phillips whom she married in Big Spring on January 10, 1966. She was a member of the Coggin Ave. Baptist Church in Brownwood.
Carmen loved gardening, puzzles and reading. She had a keen sense of humor. If you ever needed a friend and knew Carmen, you had a friend. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved her daily talks with them.
Carmen is survived by her daughter-in-law, Virginia Hicks and husband Clint of Clyde; two granddaughters, Melissa Eighmy and husband Jordan of Henderson, NV and Cheyanne Padget of Abilene; and three grandsons, Joseph Phillips of Lawton, OK, Shiloh Padget of Abilene and Thomas Hicks of Clyde.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local charity in her memory.
