Kenneth Leon Covington

Age 87, of Alma, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Gratiot in Alma. He was born July 31, 1926 in Romance, Arkansas the son of Jesse and Althea (McKay) Covington. Ken served his country in the Unites States Navy during WWII, being stationed on the ship Okalossa and was involved in several Pacific invasions. On October 18, 1953 he married Joyce VanNorman in Angola, IN.

Ken worked for Chrysler in Detroit and retired from Lobdell-Emery Manufacturing in 1988. He was a member of UAW #67 and a Deacon at the East Superior Christian Church. He enjoyed going to the family reunions in Arkansas, baseball, especially watching the Tigers, hunting and fishing.

Ken is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce of Alma, two sons, Michael (Margaret) Covington of Midland, David (Roxanna) Covington of Alma, a daughter, Julie (Tim) O'Boyle of Lowell, 10 grandchildren, Lauren Covington, Rachel (Paul) Nold, Stephen Covington, Ashlie (Scott) Stahl, Emily Covington, Logan (Amber) Covington, Wade (Laurie) O'Boyle, Amy (Kevin) Smith, Amber (Landon) Graham, Caleb (Jamie) O'Boyle and 19 great-grandchildren. Also siblings, Dorothy Outlaw, Ermarie Green, JoAnn Hamric, Jeral Poor, Linda Luck, Jimmy Covington and Donny Covington and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mildred Thomas and four brothers, Robert, Milton, Hershal and Billy Covington.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 11 am at the Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma with Pastor James Amstutz officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Alma. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
