Russell Erickson was born on
December 30, 1901 on a farm north of
Marathon to Enoch and Minnie (Howe)
Erickson. He grew up and attended school
in Marathon. He attended Iowa State University
for the winter quarter, studying
agriculture.
On June 23, 1925, he was united in
marriage to Alma Olivia Lind at Spencer,
a marriage that lasted for over 70 years.
To this union two children were born:
Marlene and Stanley.
Russell went to California with his
grandparents in his late teens and worked
at various jobs, including driving a bus
for the city of Long Beach. He returned to
farming, and operated a dairy in the
1940s. Along with farming, he also sold
Pioneer seed corn for 30 years. In 1967,
he moved from the farm into Marathon.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents
Enoch and Minnie, wife Alma, two
brothers, Enrol and Dwight, one sister,
Letha Erickson, and one son-in-law,
Roger Barber.
