There will also be a memorial service Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Winterfield United Methodist Church, Longview, TX at 2:00PM. Mr. Butler died January 1, 2009, his birthday, in Longview, TX. Mr. Butler was born January 1, 1915 in Oak Grove, LA. He attended school in Oak Grove. In the 1930's and 40's he worked in the oil field and for the Santa Fe Railroad. He retired from National Tank Co. on January 1, 1980. He married Omah Spillyard on January 1, 1932 in Forest, LA. During their marriage they lived in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. They were residents of Brookhaven from 1951 until 1980 and were members of First Baptist Church and Brookhaven Country Club. Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and mother of his children, Omah Butler, his second wife, Helen Butler, two sons, Tom and Herbie, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Becky Butler of Longview, TX, James and Harriett Butler of Greer, SC and Elizabeth Butler of Monroe, LA., nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His brother and sister-in-law, John and Elsie Butler of Jasper, TX. The family requests that memorials be made to Beacon Hospice, Box 5908, Longview, TX 75608.
