BLACKWATER, Va. - Carl V. Collier, born Sept. 22, 1917, age 86 years and 11 months, passed away Monday (Sept. 6, 2004) at Wellmont-Hawkins County Hospital after a long illness.

He made his home away from home in two nursing homes for the past four years and five months.

He was a veteran of World War II and retired from Forrest Products of Morristown, Tenn.

He was a member of the Beech Grove Primitive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eliza Collier; three sisters, Evangie Wells, Sally Collier and Wilhite Johnson; one brother, Willard Collier; and an infant son, Carl Edward Collier.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lola Collier of Blackwater; three daughters, Doris Fannon (husband P.J.) of Saxe, Va., Joyce Fannon (husband Lester) of Brookneal, Va., and Ruth Glass (husband George Jr.) of Blackwater; three sons, James (Jimmy) Collier (wife Ellaree) of Rogersville, Bruce Collier (wife Cheryl) of White Pine, and Coy Collier of White Pine; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Ida Bowens of Duffield, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Robinette Funeral Home chapel, Blackwater, Va., or anytime at the residence of Ruth and George Glass Jr.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Elder Roger Trent and Jeffrey Glass officiating.

Military graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Powell Valley Cemetery, Dryden, Va., by the Charles DeWitt Byrd VFW Post #3382 of Kingsport. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 12 noon Friday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends.
