Leona, was born on Dec 9, 1929, in South Bend, Ind. To her parents Leo (Otolski)Smith and Alvernia (Kitchen) Smith. They left South Bend, Ind. Around 1931/1932 shortly after the birth of Leo and Alvernia second daughter. The family made their home in a small town in Northern Michigan called Cheboygan. Which was Leona's mothers hometown. Leona, grew up in Cheboygan. She lived there until she married. Sometimes after moving to Cheboygan with her parents and baby sister. Her father changed the last name from Otolski to Smith.
Leona, and her sister Barbara, were soon followed by two more siblings a brother, Donald, and then a younger sister, Elaine, who would complete the family. Leona, and her brother and sisters, loss the most important person in their lives. Their mother Alvernia,died in her sleep at the young age of just 41 years old. After, the death of her mother about two month later her and her boyfriend Elbert Smith, became parents to a baby boy they named Robert. Leona and Elbert, would marry a few years later in Dec 1954 in Cheboygan. A few months later Leona, gave birth to twin boys in May 1955. The twins name were Donald and Ronald. Ronald was born stillborn and buried in a cemetery in Alpena, MI. Even sadden by the loss of a child. Leona and Elbert, would be overjoyed about a year or two later with the birth of their last child and only daughter they named Vicki. Leona and her husband have lived in a lot of different places through out the United States. It was on the account of Elbert's career in the coast guard. The last place Leona and Elbert, lived was in Little Rock, Arkansas. Elbert, died around 2002 he and Leona, were married for about 47 years. Leona, would live on for about 9 years. Before her own death in March 2011 at the age of 81.
