Josephine attended local schools, and grew up in Boothbay Harbor where her father operated a lobster wharf there. Upon graduation, she traveled to Winter Park, Florida, where she attended Rollins College, earning her degree studying music.
She would marry renowned artist, Norman Merritt and the couple would make their home in Boothbay Harbor where they enjoyed the coast and each other.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband; as well as several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by many cousins; and special friend and caretaker, Scott Campbell.
A graveside service for both Josephine and Norman, will be held at the Ocean View Cemetery in Boothbay, at a day and time to be announced. A service announcement will be published in next week's edition of the Lincoln County News, and details can be found on the funeral homes website.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lincoln Home (which her grandmother was a founding member of), 22 River Road, Newcastle, ME 04553.
