Gene was a long-time business man in Mountain Grove. He was an American Family Insurance agent for 40 years and also a letter carrier for USPS for 28 years.
Gene met and married Zelma Booker shortly after graduating from high school. They had one son, Edward.
He was an avid pool player and had several trophies he won over the years. He also loved pitching horseshoes, gardening, and growing beautiful flowers in his spare time.
Anyone who knew Gene knew he liked to tell jokes and probably remembered more than the usual person. He loved going to the Senior Center, as long as his health permitted.
He and Zelma were members of the First Baptist Church in Mountain Grove.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Young, and son, Edward Young.
He is survived by his favorite daughter-in-law, Linda Young, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, grandson, Kristopher Young and his wife, Letitia, of Springfield, Missouri, four great-granddaughters, and five great-great grandchildren who will miss him.
