G. W. Davidson was a member of the Coffee County Bar Association. In 1863 he entered the Federal quartermaster's department, and served in that capacity until the end of the war. He was soon appointed Postmaster in Tullahoma and served until November 1885. He married S. W. Cleveland on February 24, 1864. According to Archibald Yell Smith, Davidson was known as "an ex-Union soldier, who in spite of his loyalty to the Union knew well how to sympathize with an honest Confederate soldier who was struggling to get on his feet and became an asset instead of a liability on the community."
