Former Boggstown resident Frank M. Bass, 82, Hilton Head Island, S.C., died Aug. 12 in the Rogers Center at TidePointe, Hilton Head Island.

He was born May 27, 1916, in Boggstown. He was married to Mary Bass, and she survives. Mr. Bass was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. for 20 years. In 1959 he founded Bass Tire & Oil Co. in Danville, Ill., where he worked in partnership with his wife for 25 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Hilton Head Island.

He was a 1933 graduate of Indiana University School of Business, where he was a member of Acacia Fraternity and was captain of the Marching 100 Band.
Mr. Bass retired as a major with the U.S. Army Air Force, serving with the 101st Airborne Division as a pilot and flight instructor from 1940 to 1945. He also served in the Air Force Reserves. Mr. Bass moved to Hilton Head Head Island in 1990.

Other survivors include five daughters, Betsy Bowen and Joann Prochazka, both of Lake Forest, Ill., Linda Woo, Hillsborough, Calif., Mickey Bass, Chicago, Ill., and Janis Outten, Carmel, Calif; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Aug. 13 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 10850 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 730, Los Angeles, CA 90024. Arrangements were handled by Island Funeral Home.
