On the evening of Friday, December 20th, 2013, Claude Morris Morgan of Ward Township passed away unexpectedly at his residence. He was 79. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Higby) Morgan, at home; his former wife, Patricia Stage of Alba; sisters, Lois Norton of Forksville and Audrey (& Carl) Bedford of Mehoopany; as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his sons, Robert Dale Morgan and Thomas P. Machmer; daughter, Lynne Y. Machmer; brothers, Desmond, Roland, Donald, and Darwin Morgan; and sisters, Myrtie Lee, Lucille Bond, Lenora Mae Avery, Ethlyn Machmer and Alfreda Letts. Visitation will be Monday, December 30th, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) of Canton. Service will follow at 6 p.m. with his pastor, Rev. Bonnie Browning and Rev. David Morris officiating. The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the Canton High School Wrestling Program or the Canton High School Football Program c/o Canton Area High School, 509 East Main Street, Canton, PA 17724, or the Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 170 N. Minnequa Avenue, Canton.

On the evening of Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, Claude Morris Morgan of Ward Township passed away unexpectedly at his residence. He was 79 years of age. Born in Shunk on June 9, 1934 and raised in Canton, he was the son of Floyd and Dorothy (Smith) Morgan. Claude was a 1952 graduate of Canton High School and had been employed for many years in the construction field as a master carpenter. He was a cheerful, friendly man who enjoyed the company of family and friends, and was a member of Canton Lodge #429, Loyal Order of Moose. Claude was also an avid sports fan, and a major supporter of the Canton Warriors, serving in various capacities such as game manager, score keeper and umpire. He coached Little League baseball for twenty-five years in Canton and was inducted into the LeRoy Hall of Fame. Claude was also a former state bowling champion as well as an avid golfer. He was a great fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Duke University basketball team, whom he was fortunate enough to watch play from courtside during March Madness. He was also a fan of Penn State football, and attended their home games as often as possible, usually observing the action from the fifty yard line. He was also fond of attending the state wrestling tournaments.

Claude was a man of faith and was a longtime member of the Church of Christ (Disciples) in Canton, where he served many years as a trustee. He also applied his technical talents to the upkeep and betterment of the church's physical property.

He is survived by his wife, Carol (Higby) Morgan, at home, his former wife Patricia Stage of Alba, sisters Lois Norton of Forksville and Audrey (and Carl) Bedford of Mehoopany, as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his sons, Robert Dale Morgan and Thomas P. Machmer, daughter Lynne Y. Machmer, brothers Desmond, Roland, Donald, and Darwin Morgan, and sisters Myrtie Lee, Lucille Bond, Lenora Mae Avery, Ethlyn Machmer and Alfreda Letts.
