Joyce Virginia DeJarnette Lacy Shorter, of 14824 Brookneal Highway, Gladys died Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Liberty Ridge Health and Rehabilitation, Lynchburg. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Morrell Bertrand "Bert" Shorter, Jr. and Reeves McKinley Lacy, Jr.

She was born January 22, 1942 in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late Hunter Archer DeJarnette, Sr. and Hazel Virginia White DeJarnette. Joyce was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, a former co-operator of Archie's Place in Gladys. She was a graduate of William Campbell High School. The love of her life was her family and celebrating holiday's with them. She loved craft shows and sewing throughout her life and selling her homemade treasures across Virginia.

She is survived by a son, Gerald Hunter Lacy and his wife Janette of Rustburg; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Derek Lacy of Lynchburg, Stephanie Renee' Lacy and Timothy Reeves Lacy both of Rustburg; one sister, Bonnie DeJarnette Pugh Wilson and her husband Roger of Rustburg and two brothers, Hunter Archer "Buddy" DeJarnette, Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Chesapeake and Daniel Dwight "Danny" DeJarnette, Sr. and his wife Linda of Rustburg.

In addition to her husbands, Joyce was preceded in death by a son, Mark Alan Lacy; one sister, Helen Patricia "Patsy" DeJarnette Davidson Massie and brothers in law, Jimmy Mack Davidson and Thomas Massie.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday June 29, 2014 at Sharon United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Charles Haley with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Saturday at Finch and Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Gladys and other times at the residence.

The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider The Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Central and Western Virginia Chapter, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

The family wishes to thank Centra Hospice (Theresa and Jamie) and Liberty Ridge Health and Rehabilitation (Sharon). A special thank you to a caregiver and exceptional friend Linda Savage who made sure her last days were full.
