Samuel Holloway served as a Private during the War of 1812 in Capt. Elisha Camp's 6th Artillery Company of BGen. Jacob Brown's New York State Militia. He was engaged in the First Battle of Sackets Harbor on 19 Jul 1812. The battle was the first engagement of the War in US territory and went into the history books as a victory for America. Samuel Holloway was born near Plattsburgh, New York in 1786. He married Lucy Baker, who was born July 17, 1793. They raised a family of 15 children, 14 of whom lived into adulthood: Marinda, William, Chloe, Nathan, Fanny, Phebe, Samuel, Lucy, Caroline, Lydia, Martha and Mary (twins), Daniel, and Stephen.
