Services for Melvin Spencer, 76, of Lufkin will be held in the First Missionary Baptist Church, 410 Scarbrough, Lufkin, TX.. Burial will follow in the Nigton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Spencer was born January 13, 1938 in Nigton, TX. and died June 22, 2014 in Lufkin.

Melvin Spencer Sr. was born on November 13, 1937 to the late Willie and Margaret Spencer in Nigton. Melvin was a graduate of Temple High School in Diboll and attended Texas College in Tyler. He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Lufkin. He was a faithful member of his Sunday school class. After more than 40 years, he retired from Texas Foundry. Melvin enjoyed hunting and spending time relaxing with his family.

In 1957, Melvin married the love of his life Lillian Coutee. They were married for 57 years and had seven children: Sheron Spencer Adams, Jerry (Della) Spencer, and Cathryn ,Spencer Johnson, James Spencer, Melvin (Anita) Spencer, Donna Spencer, Wilma (Chuck) lsaac. There are 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. His brothers and sisters are Willie C. (Evelyn) Spencer, Archie Faye Spencer, Lela Spencer and Charles (deceased) (Stella) Spencer, Leroy (Morteal) Spencer, Freddie (Vernell) Spencer, Lorraine (Elmer) Mark, and Barney Spencer; sisters- in-law, Lola Hamilton and Edna Coutee; brothers-in-law, John (Helen) Coutee, Gerald (Racheal) Coutee, Joe (Evelyn) Coutee. His surviving aunts are Elise Jones and Virgie Spencer, and uncle Charles Daniels. Melvin leaves a wealth of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
