The community was shocked Monday to learn that Mrs. Martha R. Davis had died at two o'clock that morning at her home in Evansville. While not in robust health, the members of the family did not suspect that the Grim Reaper was so near. A physician was called Saturday night and he found her condition was worse than suspected. Relatives were notified. The cause of her death was Bright's disease. Martha R. Jaquess was born December 15, 1940, on the farm now occupied by Sidney Wilsey one and a half miles north of town, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Jaquess. In 1864 she was united in marriage to Will Davis and the young couple resided in Poseyville and later moved to New Harmony where Mr. Davis was a general contractor. After the death of her husband she moved to Evansville where she passed the last years in a handsome home in Washington Terrace with her sons William and Charles. To them were born eight children, George, Harry, Will, Charles and Ida. George died a few years ago, Harry resides in New Harmony, and Ida is now Mrs. Dorsey Powell, of Evansville. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Montgomery, of Owensville, a number of grandchildren and a number of relatives living in this community. Funeral services were held at the residence in Evansville Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock and the remains were brought to Poseyville on the Wednesday morning train and services held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev.
