Joan Catherine (Roether) Phillips, 87, died Tuesday, December 10, at Mosaic Life Care Hospital, St. Joseph, Missouri.

She was born April 17, 1932, in Junction City, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Roether and Maude (Tellis) Roether. On July 10, 1952, she married Charles Phillips, in Wilsey, Kansas. Joan raised four daughters and worked as a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters: Betty, Jeanette, Beverly, and Barbara; and two brothers: Charles (Bug) and Edward (Chuck).

Joan is survived by her four daughters: Sue Ann Morton and husband, Jones, Dumas, TX, Jeanine K. Allen, St. Joseph, MO, Cathy Jo Welch and husband, Bernie, St. Petersburg, FL, and Diana L. Summers, Weston, MO. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren: Joanna (Morton) Schmidt, Charles Robert Morton and wife, Maria, Jamie (Allen) Tucker and husband Chris, Danie (Allen) McNeely and husband Troy, Emily Summers, Abby Summers and John "Jack" Summers; seven great grandchildren: Catie Morton, Luke Morton, Darko Tucker, Charlie Tucker, Aspen McNeely, Emery McNeely and Olivia McNeely; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Sawyer Funeral Home, Council Grove, Kansas, Sunday, December 14th, at 4:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will follow at the Wilsey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer's Association (act.alz.org).
