Danny G. Gardner, age 82 of Frankton, died Sunday, June 22, 2014 surrounded by his family at Community Hospital in Anderson after a brief illness. He was born August 16, 1931 in Elwood, the son of Roscoe and Mable (Tyndall) Gardner. He retired in 1978 from the Newton Asphalt Company in Alexandria, VA where he worked as a Site Foreman for more than 15 years. He previously retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant after 23 years of service during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars; and had worked at the Pentagon as an alternative top-secret Control Officer. Early in his adult life, he also worked at Continental Can Corporation in Elwood for a short time. Danny married Joan Crull-Elliott on July 7, 1987, and they shared nearly 27 years of marriage. He attended the First Missionary Baptist Church in Elwood; was a member of the Elwood Elks Lodge; and a life-member of the Elwood V.F.W. post 5782. Danny was an avid NASCAR and Notre Dame Football fan; and was known as a great storyteller. He enjoyed traveling, bird watching, country music, gardening, and taking immaculate care of his yard. More than anything, he loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Danny's family includes his wife, Joan Gardner of Frankton; 4 children, Mike (wife Mary Frances) Gardner of Vacaville, CA, Pam (husband Kirk) Makely of Vacaville, CA, Terrie Sizelove of Frankton, and Jerrie Lynn Bottoms of Whiteland; sister Sandra Lou Halupa of Kokomo; 12 grandchildren, Jesica Gardner, Nicole Gardner, Joshua Vernard, Michael Gardner, Jacquelyn Makely, Christopher Apoka, Kurt Sizelove, Kelly (husband Mark) Seleyman, Kevin (wife Stacey) Sizelove, Ronald McPhearson, Jr, and Misty Rust; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Patrick Gardner; 2 sisters, Ramona Wells and Nancy Rosenquist; and son-in-law, Larry Sizelove.
