Luther Woodrow Pitts Sr., 74, of Fairfield Acres in Bethlehem Community, died Saturday in an area hospital following a brief illness,
Born May 13, 1915, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Ruben Monroe and Emma Etta Townsend Pitts. He was a retired owner and operator of the Kiser Fraser Motor Auto Dealer and a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helena Allen Pitts; three brothers, Oscar Pitts, Ray Pitts and Paul Pitts; and two sisters, Claudia Pitts Earnhardt and Lottie Pitts.
Survivors include three sons, George S. Pitts of Dallas; Woodie Ray Pitts of Bethlehem and Luther Woodrow Pitts Jr. of Conover, a brother, Ralph Pitts of Newton; two sisters, Ruth Lanier of Boone and Mary Earnhardt of Bethlehem; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Timothy Jordan at 2 p.m. today at the Mount Pisgah Lutheran Church where he was a member. Burial was in Eastview Cemetery in Newton.
Pallbearers were Richard Kale, James Daniels, Buddy Harper, Floyd Reid, Jim Vaughn and Larry Pitts.
