Oliver Theodore Shipman, after a short illness, at his home in Narka, Kan., departed this life April 30, 1931, at 6 o'clock p.m. at the age of 58 years, 9 months and 4 days.
On July 26, 1872 he was born to Wesley C. and Mary Catherine Shipman at Pomeroy, Ia. During the spring of 1885 he came with the family to Kansas, settling near what is now known as Narka, Kan., in Republic county. They have remained in this vicinity to the present time.
His mother, four brothers, and two sisters, preceded him in death, while those remaining to mourn his loss are; Minnie Shipman, Blanche Shipman, Mrs. J.B. Rood of Fort Madison, Ia., and Mrs. Jennie Brooks of Darnell, Wash., and a brother, Edward Shipman, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
He accepted Christ as his Savior in the Methodist church, but had been unable to attend for some little time, the church of his choice. Those who attended him in his last moments report that he was conscious to the end, and that he was ready to go.
Funeral services were held at he Narka M.E. Church Sunday, May 3, 1931, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. R.G. Strong officiating. Interment was made at the Maple Grove Cemetery.
