Clayton J. "C.J." Cottrell, 79, of Winifrede, died December 30, 2006, at home. He was a retired coal miner from Bethlehem Steel and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Winifrede Presbyterian Church, was a 32 Degree Mason in the Chelyan Lodge and was a Shriner in Beni Kedem Temple, Charleston. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by wife, Della Rose Raines Cottrell on February 8, 1995; and son, Terry Lee Cottrell on March 14, 1979.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters; two sons; three step-daughters; one stepson; two sisters; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. The funeral was 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2006, at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet. Burial followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
