Andrews: Lydia Mae Godwin Ard, 84, widow of Malcolm Wilson Ard, died Monday, November 17, 2014, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Ard was born in Andrews on September 28, 1930, a daughter of the late George Duffie Godwin and Ethel Cox Godwin. She grew up in Andrews and retired after more than 40 years of employment from Oneita Knitting Mills. Mrs. Ard was a member of Happy Home Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a nursery class teacher and active in the Ladies Ministry. She was a missionary at heart and a devoted caregiver.
Surviving are: two sons, Randy M. Ard (Linda) and James W. Ard, both of Andrews; two daughters, Iva A. Cox and Linda A. Altman (Gene), both of Andrews; a brother, Gerthie Godwin (Grace) of Andrews; two sisters, Tula Tilton and Gladys Powell, both of Andrews; a sister-in-law, Louvenia Godwin of Andrews; five grandchildren, Charlene Ard, Eric Ard, Ben Cox (Angela), Stacey Altman (Bobbie), and Craig Altman (Robin); and nine great-grandchildren, Joseph, Hunter, Dayton, Hannah, Kaleb, Annabele, Abby, Chase, and Zach. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Ard was predeceased by a brother, Olin Godwin.
Funeral services will be held at two o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, November 19, 2014, at Happy Home Freewill Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Daniel Jackson. Burial will follow at Piney Forest Cemetery.
