"Iroquois County Times" 2 June 1883 - Fountain Creek
Last week we made mention of Barney McDonald's illness. This week we must report his death. Mr. McDonald came to Illinois about the year 1860 and settled near LaSalle, where he lived some 4 or 5 years when he came to Iroquois county and was engaged in farming. He was taken sick Saturday, May 12th, but was not considered dangerous until Tuesday after the following Saturday, when he became restless and expressed a desire to have his son in Chicago telegraphed for who came down Wednesday, who also pronounced him out of danger and went to a near station to make preparations for a speedy trip home, but was soon hailed by a messenger only to be informed of his death. He leaves a wife and 3 children to mourn his loss; he was a member of the Catholic Church. He was a noble, generous, high spirited man and held in high respect by all who knew him; the remains were kept over until Friday waiting the arrival of friends from a distance; he was 56 years of age; the remains were taken to Loda for burial.

[NOTE: Not verified that he is buried in Pine Ridge cemetery]
