Joseph Samuel Loughlin, 80, of Southport died surrounded by his family, his pastor and God?s love on Tuesday, November 20, 2007.
JoeSam was born January 15, 1927, son of Joseph Jackson Loughlin and Norma Evelyn (Brinkman) Loughlin of Southport. He served as a Navy corpsman during World War II and met his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Gertrude (Schulz) Loughlin, while they both served at Philadelphia Naval Hospital. He retired from the heating and air conditioning industry in 1989.
He was an active member of St. Paul ?s Evangelical and Reform Church in Piqua, Ohio, and served on the church council. Upon full-time retirement in Southport, he became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was a Cub Scout master and a 60-year Mason. He enjoyed western square dancing, SCUBA diving and standing on his hands if he had an audience.
He is survived by his wife; his sister, Mary Ann Williams of Wilmington; his daughter, Sandra Bettelon of Piqua, Ohio; his son, Joe Loughlin of Southport; grandchildren Katie Loughlin, Jamie Bettelon and Carrie Makris; four great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his older sisters, Elizabeth Harrelson and Evelyn Fox, and his grandson, Joseph Russell (Rusty) Loughlin.
A memorial service was held Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport.
