Anthony W. "Tony" Dyhrkopp, 57, of Gold Hill Ranch, Shawneetown, departed this life Sunday, April 10, 2005, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1947 in Evansville, Ind., the son of Einar and Frances (Sanders) Dyhrkopp of Shawneetown. He has been married for 28 years, to Ellen (Lambert) Dyhrkopp.

Tony graduated from Shawneetown High School in 1965, and received his Juris Doctorate degree from North Carolina in 1974. He also studied at Chicago Kent College of Law, Parson College, and enrolled in a European study program with the International College of Copenhagen, Denmark, spending considerable time in Russia, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Hungary, East and West Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Spain. Tony served as Gallatin County state's attorney for 16 years, assistant Illinois attorney general for six years and hearing officer for Secretary of State Jesse White for six years.

Tony was Christian by faith and a member of the First Baptist Church in Shawneetown, vice president of Tecumseh International, an alumnus of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, member of the Equality Masonic Lodge No. 2, and a life-long Democrat. Tony was a loving husband, father, son and friend. He will be sadly missed.

Survivors are his wife, Ellen (Lambert) Dyhrkopp of Shawneetown; two sons, Douglas Einar Dyhrkopp and Aaron Joseph Dyhrkopp, both of Shawneetown; one daughter, Kara Ruth Dyhrkopp of Shawneetown; his parents, Einar and Frances Dyhrkopp of Shawneetown; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Douglas and Marchetta Lambert of Harrisburg; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul and Cindy Hughes, Duane and Suzette Lambert and Paul and Patti Lambert; two nieces, Andrea (Mike) Phalin and Brette Lambert; one nephew, Jordan Lambert; two great-nephews, Connor and Cooper Phalin; one uncle, Felix (Pam) Dyhrkopp, Slidell, La.; four aunts, Victoria Vaughn, Louise Vallie, Louise (Sanders) Strong and Hilda (Moye) Sanders; and special cousins, Billy Earl and Sharon Sanders and son Billy John, and Mark and Debbie Sanders and children Heather, Megan and Jessica.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Myrtle Schwander; great-grandfather, Guy R. Lambert; grandmother, Vevith (Denton) Dyhrkopp; grandfather, Victor Dyhrkopp; great-grandmother, Sarah H. Denton; great-uncle, Col. Samuel A. Denton and his wife, Ethel.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Crossroads Bible Church in Norris City. Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2005, at the church with the Rev. Leo Hall and the Rev. Jack Hall officiating. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery. Arrangments are entrusted to Cox and Son Funeral Homes of Shawneetown.
