He was a Letter Carrier (Postman) and usually did the Handbridge round. He died after a short illness at 25 Garden Lane, Chester aged 35 yrs. He was buried on the 12th June 1885. His coffin had been followed to the graveside by the whole of the postmen in the city and district in their uniform.
