Born on December 28, 1932, in Washington, Missouri, to William Jr and Olivia (Boeckmann/ Straatmann). He graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School in 1950 and became a meat cutter at Droege's Supermarket before proudly serving our country as a baker with the U.S. Army in Germany. Before he went overseas, he fell completely in love with Ruth Marie (Eckelkamp), married her, and formed a bond that lasted 62 years. He is survived by Ruthie and five of their six children, Barb (Gerry Boudreau), Greg (Mary), Jo, Larry (Sally) and Gwen (Tim Mauntel). He was so proud of the kids he raised to be responsible and kind adults. Bill considered his life purpose to bring joy to people. He thought a joke could make anyone's day and did his best to make that happen as often as possible. His professional career revolved around cost accounting/engineering work for local manufacturers; Zero, Washington Metal Fabricators, SKF and Clemco. He continued his education at Rankin Trade School and Washington University. He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Parish, the notorious Borgia Choir, the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 2661, and the American Legion. One of the highlights of his life was taking the Honor Flight to Washington, DC. He served on the City of Washington Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Adjustment. He was an active member of the Borgia Athletic Association, the Monday/Thursday Parish Volunteers, various finance committees and task forces, and for years, was a leading fundraiser for the United Way Campaign. He was a scrappy baseball and basketball player who competed beyond his size and forged a group of friendships he cherished his whole life. He gladly lost golf balls and poker money with those guys on a regular basis. He is survived by most of these friends and their wives, his sister, Marylou Storment, Joe Borgering, Nicey Eckelkamp, Mickey and Smiley Holtmeier and Mrs. Murphy, who will live forever. He was lovingly known as Gramps to Carrie Mirth (Jeremy), Tom Boudreau, Paul Boudreau (Katie), Erin Sullentrup, Zach Sullentrup, Matt Sullentrup, Jeremy Sullentrup (Leah), Jane Stanley (James), Chris Hanneken (Jamie), Brad Hanneken (Ellen), Gwen Hanneken, Eric Sullentrup, Tanner and Trey Bainbridge, Kelly Mauntel, John Mauntel, Ray Mauntel and his 16 great grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Mike, Lawrence and Caroline Eckelkamp, his brother Bob, and in-laws he considered brothers and sisters: Maurice and Bert Eckelkamp, Rusty Borgerding, Sal and Margie Jasper, Ray and Dorothy Jasper, and Les Eckelkamp.
