(39) Samuel (4) Schnure, b. 4-21-1848, d. 4-21-28; m. Mary Ann Reagel,
b. 9-22-54, died 5-28-49. They were married at Vicksburg 10-3-1878.
Born on the old Schnure homestead near Laurelton, Pa. Farmed there
until 1880; moved near Mifflinburg 1882; to Housels Run near Milton
1884; to Limestoneville after the Susquehanna floods of '89 and '94;
to his own farm near Limestoneville in 1906; to The Maples near Milton
in 1910 when he retired from farming. Buried at Paradise Church.

He started farming before the mower replaced the scythe; the harvester,
the cradle; the combine, the flail. It wasn't easy, muscle had not been
replaced by machine. Of Sam Schnure's farming, it is sufficient to say
that he always left the land richer in fertility than when he found it
and that he won from it a comfortable living and easy circumstances for
their old age. His farm in Limestone Twp., Montour Co., consisted of 90
acres of fertile land on the edge of Paradise Valley. His home, "The
Maples" in Pleasant Valley near Milton, was the scene of his tapering
activities. He died on his 80th birthday.
