GALVESTON - Willie Mae Gardner of Galveston, beloved
wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, greatgreat-
grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on October 27, 1999, at 11 p.m. at her home. She was the matriarch of five generations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence
Gardner; her parents William Henry and Betty Greer; three
sisters Priscilla, Lummy, Katie Mae; one brother, Gus; and one aunt, Stella Crawford.

Mrs. Gardner was born in Houston and moved to Galveston in her early teens. Mrs. Gardner was very active in her community and Galveston County at large. She was a mother figure for many of the students at Galveston College, Phi Chi fraternity house at the University of Texas Medical
Branch and for the residents and children of Palm Terrace. She attended Galveston College where she served as president of the Student Senate and received associate degrees in both social work and child development.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 1999, followed by a wake from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the chapel of Wynn Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 3, 1999, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church,
3602 Sealy Avenue, Galveston, Texas, with the Reverend
Norris D. Burkley Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston, Texas.

Mrs. Gardner is survived by her children, Mary Simon Moore of Dickinson, Clare Marie Wyles, Sharon Lynn Holmes, Andrea Denise Gardner, David Lawrence
Gardner and Darryl Dennis Gardner of Galveston; Beverly
Gardner Nelson and Valerie Gardner Smith of
Houston; two sons-in-law, Walter 'Red' Moore and
Winslor Smith; and one daughter-in-law, Tina Jackson Gardner; grandchildren William Henry, Linda, Gail, Barry, Michael, David, Darren, Sherrie Lynnette, Sheree' Lorraine, Brittany and Harold. Stepgrandchildren, Teresa, Bobbie, Robbie, Walter Jr., Danielle, Passion, Tomika, Keivette and Eric; and one godchild, Richard Arthur. Mrs. Gardner leaves 29 loving great-grandchildren, seven great-greatgrandchildren and 22 other very close extended family members.

Mrs. Gardner touched many lives in a very special way.

The saying goes ,"It takes a village to raise a child."

Mrs. Gardner raised a village.
