John J. Pitcher Shelby, NC

John J. Pitcher, 47, of Shelby, North Carolina passed away on June 16, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born in Oakland, California, the son of Rebecca and Paul Pitcher on July 11, 1966. John has lived in North Carolina for over the past ten years, he previously served in the United States Army and was a K-9 Trainer at West Point Academy. John had a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education, he was last employed by the Cleveland County School System in Shelby, NC as a math teacher. He also coached wrestling, his passion was teaching and the enjoyment of the kids. John also loved the outdoors and the companionship of his dogs, he especially loved German Shepherds. Most of all John was a loving father and adored his two children. Survivors include, son, Jackson; and daughter, Allie; parents, Paul and Rebecca Pitcher; brothers, Otto (Robin), Henry (Rhonda) and Rocky (Lisa); a sister, Cindy (Tim) Borchard; an aunt, Jane Sala; former wife and mother of his children, Patricia Grinton; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A gathering will take place following the visitation at the Iroquois Lanes Bowling Alley in Canajoharie. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Canajoharie Vol. Fire Dept or to the Mohawk Vol. Ambulance Service.
