Shirley Irene Cochran, age 75, of Lumberton, Texas died on June 19, 2014.
She was born November 7, 1938 in Columbus, Ohio to Della Price Freeman Nelk and John Herman Nelk.
Shirley was an avid reader and a big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. She was a second Mom to many a child as her own children grew up; if she bought something for one of her own, she would in turn buy the other child the same. However, the scolding's would go that way too! Shirley was very generous. If you liked and complimented her blouse it was not unusual for her to leave the room, take it off and bring it to you as her gift.
Butterflies held a particular fascination for her.
Years ago Shirley worked as a cashier for several different retail stores.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Tina Lee, of Lumberton, Texas and Elizabeth Taylor and husband, Donald, of Duck Hill, Mississippi, her son, Donald Lee Miller, of Thailand; grandchildren, Amanda Lewis, Joshua, Cory and Jaime Miller, Johnny Teasley, Sydney and Colton Rushing, Kristian Lee, Donald and Caitlin Taylor; great grandchildren, Abigail and Jacob Lewis and Isabel Duffy- Miller and sisters, Barbra McEntire and husband, Marvin, of Columbus, Ohio and Virginia List and husband, John, of Zanesville, Ohio.
Shirley was preceded in death by her sons, David Lee Miller (5391059) and Douglas Lee Miller (5391061), parents, Della Price Freeman Nelk and John Herman Nelk and sisters, Helen Wears, Mary Anthony, Ella Caminiti, Margaret Jones, Donalyn Campbell and Mildred Nelk.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Lumberton Family Funeral Home.
