James Alfred Blankenship
August 20, 1928 - June 20, 2014

Wiley Ford, WV- James Alfred Blankenship, 85, of Wiley Ford, WV, passed away Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born August 20, 1928, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Walter Ervin Blankenship and Hazel Clara Marie (Ross) Blankenship. He was also preceded in death by a son: Steve Blankenship; and a daughter: Linda Blankenship.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, James was a Graduate of Ridgeley High School Class of 1946, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946-1950.
He retired from Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company with 34 years of service. He served as treasurer of the Employees Union for 20 years. James was an avid bowler, belonging to two different leagues, a Mens' League and a Mixed Bowling League. He also enjoyed bicycling on the C&O Canal. Whether it was bicycling, swimming, or taking his grandchildren places, James was very active in his own life and with his family and grandchildren; his greatest joy was his family. James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Virginia Lee (Beck) Blankenship; his children: Michael Blankenship and wife Julia; Patty Tobiason and husband Laurey; Jeff Blankenship; Jill Ashenfelter; Jackie Tunis and husband Tim; Jennie Lockard and husband Chris; Scott Blankenship and wife Terry; Alan Blankenship and wife Debbie; Mark Blankenship and wife Yvette; Beth Lambert and husband Jesse; Amy Frenzel and husband Tony, Joy Blankenship and fiancée Scott Twigg; and Gail Blankenship and fiancée John Yaider; 27 grandchildren: Anna, Mary, Amanda, Heather, Josh, Ashley, Nikki, Heather, Bobby, Kristin, TJ, Sean, Brittany, Tyler, Cody, Jordan, April, Taylor, Zachary, Olivia, Emily, Courtney, Cameron, Deven, Madison, Michael, and Chloe; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; as well as many close friends and relatives.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, June 23, 2014 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Benny Brakeall officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
