Patricia Ann Hanson
June 3, 1934 - June 15, 2014
Resident of Redwood City

Patricia Ann Hanson died peacefully on June 15, 2014 in her son's arms in her Redwood City home. She died of lung cancer.

Pat was born in San Francisco on June 3, 1934 to Sentina and Antone Barbaria. The family moved to Redwood City when Pat was a young child. She attended San Francisco State where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Special Education Teaching Credential. She taught in the Belmont School District for 33 years. She started her career in special education and later moved to mainstream education, teaching grades first through fifth.

Pat was a loving companion for 34 years to her late husband, Carl Bernhardt Hanson, and mother to two sons, the late Carl B. Hanson II and Christopher Antone Hanson of Oakland. She leaves a daughter in-law, Christine Braunohler Hanson, and two grandsons, Avery Vincent Hanson (3 yrs) and Zeal Henry Hanson (10 mos). She was a dedicated sister to the late Louise Connolly of Roseville, the late Frank Barbaria of Santa Rosa, and to Vincent Barbaria of Redwood City.

Pat graciously enjoyed a close-knit community of friends and family. She loved golfing, gardening, and making trips to the family home in Squaw Valley. She was role model to her nieces and nephews, a devoted friend to her three siblings, and a guiding light to her sons and grandsons. She will be remembered for her life-long dedication to children, her generosity, her independence, and her warmth. She gave her family and friends the intimate gift of sharing her last days with them. They will remember her courage the rest of their lives. She left this world the way she lived it, with spirit and grace, surrounded by loved ones.

Pat's funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 26th at St. Pius Church at 1100 Woodside Road in Redwood City. A burial will follow the service at Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 at Route 35 in San Mateo. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children's Hospital Oakland Cancer Research at: Children's Hospital & Research Center Foundation / 2201 Broadway, Suite 600 / Oakland, CA 94612-3017 / Attn: Gift Processing.
