Oma Donal Galloway, Jr.

GALVESTON - Oma Donal Galloway, Jr., 74, of Galveston passed away, Monday, May 22, 2006, at his residence in Galveston. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home of Galveston, The Rev. Dr. William Hubbard Knight and the Rev. Jim Yeates officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston.

Oma was born June 16, 1931, in Galveston, Texas to Oma Donal Galloway, Sr. and Maurine Ethel Birdwell Galloway. He confessed and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was baptized at West Point Baptist Church where he served in the Choir and in several ministries. Oma graduated from Central High School class of 1947. He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War from 1950 until 1955 when he was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education at Texas Southern University, and a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts at Ohio State University. He was apart of the Ohio State University Jazz Workshop and the School of Dance in Columbus, Ohio, the Amato Opera and Operetta Company in New York City, and the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California. Among his numerous credits, he was most recently loved and known as the Musician at the famous Tremont House in Galveston.

Preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marion Galloway, and brother, Gene Paul Galloway, survivors include a goddaughter, Simone Lemoncello of Houston; aunt, Mazzie Galloway of Navasota; uncle and aunt, Earl and Captala Galloway of Houston; devoted cousins, Samuel and Vivian Chambers of Galveston, Shelia Moore, husband and children of California, Linda Charles and children, and a host of other cousins, dear friend and employer, George Mitchell and the entire Mitchell family, devoted friends, Jim Yeates, Rebecca Burchfield, Tommie McNeal, Mara Kelly and many more.
