Dorothy Frizzell Forbes entered this life on March 19, 1932 in Greenville, North Carolina She was the daughter of the late Elias Frizzell, Sr. and Melissa Best Frizzell. She died June 8, 1991 in Stamford, Connecticut.

She obtained her early education in Greenville and received her Bachelor's of Science degree from St. Augustine College, Raleigh, North Carolina. Dorothy was awarded a Master of Arts degree in Economics and Education and a Sixth Year diploma in Administrative and Supervision from Southern Connecticut State University.

Her career in education began in Asheville, North Carolina. Later, she became associated with the New Haven Public Schools System, where she taught over thirty years. At the time of her demise, she was a teacher at the Jackie Robinson Middle School. In addition to teaching, Dorothy served as advisor to the school's Debate Team, chairperson of the Black History Celebration and was a vital member of the School Planning & Management Team.

Dorothy was formally married to Wesley T. Forbes and was blessed with three sons, George, Todd and Shawn, and one daughter, Dorca. She was also the loving guardian of her three nieces, Joy, Melissa, Marlene, and nephew, Lester.

Always actively involved, she was a member of the Theta Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; the New Haven Chapter of Girlfriends, Incorporated, serving as recording secretary; the New Haven Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated; the Waterbury Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, where she served as president for four years; and a charter member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated. Dorothy was a member of Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ where she served on the Flower Club and as a Sunday School teacher.

Her professional affiliations included the Yale-New Haven Teacher's Institute, the Newhallville Educators and the New Haven Federation of Teachers.

Besides her immediate family, she is survived by her loving "sister", Ora "Jean" Frizzell Flynn of Greenville, North Carolina; a brother, Roy Carr of New Haven, Connecticut; a grandson, Giel Forbes of New Jersey; and an aunt, Essie Albritton of Snow Hill, North Carolina; nieces, Judith Lowery and Ruth Bernice Frizzelle Talton of New Haven, and Cynthia McDowell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nephews, Milton Carr and Lester Smith of New Haven, and Gerald Tolbert of California; and a number of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Elias Frizzell, Jr.
